Mineral resource competition! The China-Laos Railway is open, and China embarks on a journey to explore the "treasures of neighboring countries"!

1 On February 3, the China Laos railway connecting Kunming and Vientiane, Laos was officially opened. The line starts from Kunming, China in the north, passes Yuxi City, Pu'er City, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in the south, and then passes Mohan Port in China to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The total length is 1035 kilometers, with a total investment of 50.545 billion yuan.

Laos, the only country in Southeast Asia that does not rely on the sea, can also be said to be one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia. What is the attraction of this impoverished place?

In 2016, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) made a significant breakthrough in the exploration rights of Asia Potash Corporation, located 40 kilometers east of Vientiane, the capital of Laos. It initially controlled a super large potassium salt mine with a reserve of 196 million tons of potassium chloride resources. With the opening of the railway line between China and Laos, it is expected to make Laos the largest overseas potassium fertilizer production and supply base for China.

In recent years, Laos has approved many mineral projects, but there are still a large number of undeveloped mineral resources. According to statistics, only 21% of Laos' land area has been approved for mineral projects, of which only 3% have been mined. At present, most approved projects are high-value minerals with no transportation costs, such as gold and copper mines; In the future, with the opening up of transportation, minerals with large reserves and long-term economic benefits, such as potassium salt and bauxite, will usher in a new wave of development.

In the past decade, the discovery and evaluation of world super large porphyry copper gold deposits such as Fukai and Saiben in Laos have also made Laos a hot topic of global mining attention.

At the same time, the official opening of the China Laos Railway also marks another improvement of the "China Pan Asia High Speed Railway Economic Circle".

Iron ore is mainly distributed in Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, and the Philippines. According to a report from the Vietnamese government, the total iron ore reserves in Vietnam exceed 1.2 billion tons, with 13 reserves exceeding 1 million tons, mainly distributed in northern and central Vietnam, with an average grade of 50%. Among them, Shixi Iron Mine in Hejing Province has the largest reserves, with a confirmed reserve of 544 million tons and an average iron content of over 61%, which can be mined openly; The Guixiang deposit in Huanglian Mountain Province has a proven reserve of 118 million tons, with an average iron content of 56-57%. It has also begun to be mined for rich ore and is its second largest iron deposit; The QuyXa large-scale iron mine in Laojie Province is of volcanic sedimentary metamorphic type, with a reserve of 112 million tons.

Copper mines are mainly distributed in Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, and other countries. According to data from the United States Geological Survey in 2015, Indonesia's copper reserves are approximately 25 million tons, accounting for 3.57% of the world's total and ranking eighth in the world. According to geological exploration work, there are a large number of copper deposits and copper mining sites in the Philippines.

Southeast Asian countries are adjacent to China, and we have a better understanding of the local conditions, customs, and culture. It is a good choice for China's mining industry to "seek gold" overseas, and can be called a "treasure of neighboring countries".
