Since the beginning of this year, the research team has conducted investigations on the evaporites of the Tuotuo River in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, discovering oil shale in the Paleogene Yaxi Cuo Formation. The research found that the evaporites and oil shale in the Nangqian Gongjue Formation correspond to the sedimentation age of the evaporites and oil shale in the Yaxi Cuo Formation, and also correspond to the sedimentation age of the evaporites, oil shale, and oil-bearing layers in the western Qaidam Basin. From the perspective of geological structural evolution and basin sedimentation processes, numerous Paleogene oil and gas basins have developed within a vast area of about 1000 kilometers from the Gongjue Basin, Nangqian Basin, Tuotuo River, Kekexili to the eastern and western Qaidam Basin, as well as from the Nima Basin and Lunpola Basin in Tibet to the southern foothills of the Kunlun Mountains in Qinghai, with huge potential for oil and gas resources.
