Multiple lithium mineral potential areas have been discovered in central-northern Peru.

According to a report by BNAmericas, the Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute (Ingemmet) under Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines believes that a series of lithium deposits are distributed in the central mountains and northern coastal areas of the country.
The richest lithium deposits in Peru are located in the Puno region in the south, where Macusani Yellowcake is exploring. There are also large lithium deposits in the regions of Cusco, Ayacucho, Pasco, and Junín, as well as in the northern regions of Piura and Tumbes.
The above information is displayed in the geological mineral system (Geocatmin) developed by Ingemmet, which was updated at the end of 2023, including 3D information and improved geological data.
The new version of the Geocatmin system also includes information on mineral exploration and development, land planning, and disaster prevention.
The Geocatmin system shows that the lithium deposits in the Puno region (gray) extend into the southwestern part of the Cusco region, while other deposits (pink) are associated with copper, gold, zinc, and uranium.
Henry Luna, the Executive Vice President of Ingemmet, stated at a seminar held by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) that although the lithium deposits in the central mountains and northern coast are relatively small, the country will soon become one of the important lithium resource countries in the world, with predicted resource amounts on the rise.
Ingemmet plans to continue exploring lithium resources this year and hopes to discover more exploitable lithium deposits.
"Ingemmet has the responsibility to receive mining applications. There are currently no mining rights in these areas, and we will conduct research here for five years."
He added, "Ingemmet will conduct lithium exploration work in the three regions of Puno, Moquegua, and Arequipa."
