Shandong Gold Mining (Laizhou) Co., Ltd. Sanshandao Gold Mine (hereinafter referred to as "Sanshandao Gold Mine") is located in the northwest of the Shandong Peninsula, by the beautiful Laizhou Bay. It is currently one of the world-class gold resources and gold mining bases, ranking among the top in "China's Top Ten Gold Mines" and "China's Top Ten Gold Economic Benefit Mines."

Since the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party, establishing and practicing the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" has become a strategic guide for balancing environmental protection and development in the construction of gold mines in the new era. Under the correct leadership of Shandong Gold Group, the Sanshandao Gold Mine, as a "national-level green mine," combines land reclamation and ecological restoration in the resource development process, gradually achieving a win-win situation between green development and economic benefits, becoming a beautiful business card for Shandong Gold.

Adhere to the equal importance of ecological restoration and resource continuity, achieving a synchronous resonance between green environmental protection and high-quality development.

Abandoning the development model of "only caring about the present, not the long term; polluting first and treating later; destroying first and restoring later" is an important work content for Sanshandao Gold Mine to implement land reclamation and create ecological mining. During the development process, the mine strictly adheres to laws and regulations regarding mineral resources, safety production, and environmental protection, earnestly implements the requirements and relevant regulations of higher administrative departments, and has invested more than 20 million yuan in overall greening of the mining area, planting over 11,400 trees, with a greening area of 104,000 square meters, achieving a greening rate of 100% for the area that can be greened, realizing the simultaneous planning and implementation of ecological protection and mineral resource mining.

In recent years, Sanshandao Gold Mine has vigorously promoted the ecological transformation of the mine, investing over 60 million yuan in comprehensive management such as slope protection and greening of the tailings pond. During this period, over 900,000 cubic meters of soil and rock were excavated, covering 400,000 cubic meters of high-quality soil, planting over 160,000 drought-resistant and alkali-resistant tree species such as black pine and dragon cypress, and laying 600,000 square meters of turf, covering about 400 acres of saline-alkali beach with soil vegetation. This successfully created the "provincial-level environmental education base" for the Shandong Gold tailings ecological management project experimental area, effectively resolving the contradiction between mining development and land resource protection and ecological environmental protection, while meeting the production needs of the mine, minimizing pollution and beautifying the environment.

In the scientific practice of achieving sustainable development, Shandong Gold people regard environmental protection as the ultimate concern for the future and the other shore, striving to achieve the ideal goal of "letting as many individuals and as large a range benefit from the existence of Shandong Gold Group as possible" through organic transformation and turning waste into treasure.

The significant leapfrog development potential demonstrated by Sanshandao Gold Mine also poses higher requirements for the protection of the mining ecological environment, the most prominent of which is whether the surface ecological environment can remain unaffected under the condition of continuously expanding production capacity.

To this end, the mine has engaged in deep cooperation with well-known domestic research institutions such as Beijing University of Science and Technology and Central South University, jointly conducting research on "Surface Deformation Control Technology for Underground Metal Mining." During the project research process, the three units cooperated with each other, fully utilizing the latest experimental equipment resources and scientific research capabilities, employing theoretical analysis, indoor experiments, and on-site measurements to conduct specialized research on the movement patterns of the overlying rock layers during underground mining in the two major mining areas of Sanshandao Gold Mine, the range of mining impact, filling mechanism, optimization of mining structure and parameters, real-time monitoring of underground rock deformation, and evaluation and prediction of surface safety. Based on this, combined with the statistical analysis of years of surface deformation measurement data from the mine, the research established the rock movement patterns during underground mining, proposed reasonable processes and optimal mining structural parameters for non-subsidence filling mining at Sanshandao Gold Mine, and simulated and predicted the range and degree of influence of rock layer displacement in different mining spaces. The project research began in February 2007 and has successively conducted research on engineering geological environment, surface rock layer perspective scanning, rock mechanics experiments, mining method optimization, ore deposit mining simulation, surface measurement, and underground surrounding rock monitoring.

After the project was put into practical application, it injected new development guarantees for green mining, safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. As the mining capacity continues to expand and the mining intensity continues to rise, the original coastal environment has not only been preserved but has also integrated with the surface environmental construction of the mine, becoming a vivid practice that combines modern industrial environments and original ecological natural landscapes; at the same time, the project adhered to the close integration of theory and practice, achieving significant results in theoretical technology, engineering application, and talent cultivation, with comprehensive benefits being remarkable. In 2019, it was awarded the Science and Technology Award by the China Gold Association, becoming a successful model of combining production, learning, and research, making a significant contribution to maintaining national gold strategic security and supporting the stable development of the regional economy.

Continuously improve filling technology to achieve harmonious development of safe, efficient, and green mining.

In recent years, mining activities in metal mines have directly triggered various man-made geological disasters, including roof collapses, slope landslides, surface subsidence and collapses, and large-scale mining void collapses, causing significant loss of life and property to the mines and society. Especially for "three-down" minerals, the redistribution of geological stress and rock movement caused by mining leads to deformation and damage of the mineral layers and surrounding rock, and as the mining area continues to expand, the impact extends from the mining void to the surface, thereby connecting the aquifer and surface water bodies, causing mine flooding accidents, damaging mining engineering and surface public facilities, which has become the most destructive geological disaster with the widest impact range in mining engineering. Sanshandao Gold Mine is the first and currently the only underwater metal mine in China, facing higher technical and safety requirements for its mining.

To this end, the mine has successfully revealed the movement and deformation patterns of the overburden in the underwater mining void through deformation monitoring and theoretical analysis of the filling body and surrounding rock of the underwater mining area. Based on this, combined with the hydrological geological structure investigation of the underwater mine and dynamic monitoring data of water inflow, the potential forms of water inflow prevention structures and water inflow channel formation in the underwater mining area were determined, and reasonable and effective water inflow prediction methods and prevention measures were formulated according to the specific geological and mining conditions of the underwater mining area, scientifically and efficiently guiding the safe production of underwater mining.

At the same time, adhering to the development principle of "developing while managing" and the basic guideline of "developing while protecting and protecting while developing", the mine scientifically utilizes underground waste rock and tailings to fill the mined-out areas while maintaining high-intensity production. By relying on the existing filling system, tailings are used for top filling in the mined-out areas where underground waste rock has been filled; waste rock generated during the production process is basically not removed from the pit, but directly filled into the mined-out areas, achieving a filling rate of 100%. Meanwhile, the mine has established ground deformation monitoring points and groundwater dynamic monitoring points covering the entire mining area through scientific observation, conducting real-time routine monitoring of ground deformation, groundwater dynamics, and pit water, greatly reducing the damage to the geological environment caused by mining activities, further avoiding surface collapse issues and potential impacts on topography, landforms, and landscapes during the filling process.

Minimizing ecological disturbance to maximize resource acquisition is an inevitable choice for modern mining development. The Sanshandao Gold Mine adheres to the development concept of "Shandong Gold Ecological Mining", based on the protection of natural ecological balance, relying on ecological economy, supported by high-tech, characterized by resource conservation, clean production, soil and water conservation, and deep recycling of waste, treating land reclamation and ecological mining as the foundation for high-quality development, transforming it into a strong sense of responsibility for state-owned enterprises and social responsibility. In creating a new model of harmonious and circular community development, achieving a mineral resource industry chain that complies with ecological laws, it contributes gold and silver while leaving behind green mountains and clear waters, forging a new path of safe, environmentally friendly, green, efficient, and sustainable development.

As the 13th Five-Year Plan comes to a close, the blueprint for the 14th Five-Year Plan has already been laid out. In the future, the Sanshandao Gold Mine will continue to focus on the "zero accidents and zero pollution" safety and environmental protection goals, commit to land reclamation, strive to build ecological mining, and ensure the value appreciation of ecological elements and resources in the mine, tirelessly working to become a leader in "smart mining" and "ecological mining" on an international level.
