The main task of the national mineral resources survey is to comprehensively investigate the quantity, quality, structure, and spatial distribution of important mineral resources in China, accurately grasp the resource baseline situation, promote the establishment of a regular survey and evaluation system for mineral resources, and achieve information management and sharing of basic data on mineral resources. To scientifically deploy and accurately implement this task, the first national mineral resources survey technical training conference was held on October 16 in Nanning, Guangxi.

This training conference was guided by the Mineral Resources Protection and Supervision Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, hosted by the China Geological Survey of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Institute of Mineral Resources of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and co-organized by the Department of Natural Resources of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Guangxi Geological Survey Institute.
The meeting pointed out that the national mineral resources survey is an important part of the natural resources investigation and monitoring system, and is an important foundational work to implement the "two unifications" responsibilities of the Ministry of Natural Resources. All provinces (regions, municipalities) should attach great importance to it, implement it rigorously, and promote it in an orderly manner according to the overall progress requirements.
The meeting emphasized that the nature of the national mineral resources survey is "investigation," not "exploration." This national survey is "investigation and verification," not "mining and calculation," and does not compile reserve reports, focusing on the investigation and verification of identified mineral resource reserves.
The meeting emphasized that the authenticity and accuracy of mineral resource reserve data are related to major national decisions on mineral resources and are also a prerequisite for ensuring resource security. All regions and units will establish a three-level quality control system of "self-inspection, comprehensive inspection, and national verification" according to the requirements of "unified standards, full-process control, grasping key points, and strict acceptance," implementing a target responsibility system with accountability, and controlling the quality of investigation work and results throughout the process.
According to reporters, the national mineral resources survey focuses on six main tasks:
——Clarifying mineral resource investigations. Guided by the new classification standards for mineral resource reserves, conduct comprehensive investigations and verifications, clarify the status of production mines, closed (suspended) mines, abandoned mines, unused mining areas, and mineral resource reserves affected by construction projects, and obtain basic data on the quantity, quality, structure, and spatial distribution of mineral resource reserves, comprehensively grasping the current situation of mineral resources.
——Evaluation of potential mineral resources. Focusing on strategic minerals and strategically emerging minerals, comprehensively using geological, physical and chemical exploration, remote sensing, and other diverse information to dynamically evaluate the potential of mineral resources in China, delineate favorable prospecting areas, provide target areas for mineral geological surveys, and provide scientific basis for prospecting deployment.
——Special investigation and evaluation of the national mineral resources survey. This includes the evaluation of energy mineral resource status, evaluation of strategic emerging mineral resource status, investigation of mineral resource status in important functional areas, investigation of important mineral resource status affected by construction, and investigation of mineral resource status in national energy resource bases and national planned mining areas.
——Evaluation of the availability of mineral resources. Based on a comprehensive understanding of mineral resource reserves, analyze the technical, economic, ecological protection, environmental impact, and industrial policy constraints on mineral resource development and utilization, and scientifically evaluate the quantity, quality, spatial distribution, and development and utilization status of available mineral resources in China by mineral type and region.
——Construction of a national mineral resources survey database. The state formulates unified database standards and construction specifications, and builds national and local mineral resources survey databases.
——Comprehensive research on the national mineral resources survey. Based on the integration of survey results, conduct comprehensive research to update the mineral resource reserve database; ensure good connection with the data conversion work of new and old classification standards for mineral resource reserves; conduct research on the degree of mineral resource security; and serve the statistics and dynamic updates of mineral resource reserves.
The conference organizers told reporters that they will increase the publicity of the national mineral resources survey, enhance the awareness of the importance of the national mineral resources survey work in the whole society, guide public opinion, and actively respond to hot issues of social concern. Before the end of October, technical training will be conducted at multiple levels in Beijing, Henan, Yunnan, and other places to unify investigation techniques and quality control requirements. They will increase the sharing of result data to provide different levels of services for governments at all levels, research institutions, and the public, maximizing the comprehensive benefits of the survey.
This training session covered the technical requirements for the national mineral resources survey, the technical requirements for evaluating mineral resource potential, the requirements for data collection and entry into the survey forms and graphic database, and the requirements for building the national mineral resources survey results database, with interactive Q&A on-site. Students discussed the issues and new situations encountered in the preliminary work of the national survey in various provinces with experts, creating a lively atmosphere, and the students benefited greatly.
Relevant personnel from the natural resources departments of seven provinces (regions) including Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan, as well as units responsible for the national mineral resources survey, attended the meeting.□
