On July 9, Zijin Mining held a meeting of the Board of Directors' Strategy and Sustainable Development (ESG) Committee to conduct a special study on how to implement the group's strategic goals under "carbon peak and carbon neutrality," proposing to increase research and investment in new energy and new materials while developing resources, in order to find new growth points for the company's sustainable development.
Zijin Mining's "Five-Year (2+3) Plan and 2030 Development Goals Outline" establishes the priority to enhance strategic mineral resources such as gold and copper, while also considering high-growth minerals like zinc, silver, iron, and the potential of new materials and new energy minerals, moderately extending industrial investments, with non-mineral investment projects needing to have significant synergy with the main mineral business. The meeting concluded that the company has long focused on mineral exploration and development, forming strong industry competitiveness and influence upstream in the industrial chain. Extending into new energy and new materials development aligns with the company's established development strategy and should rely on the existing advantages in mining development to further expand strategic minerals related to new energy and new materials, thereby broadening the company's development space and enhancing performance growth points.
The meeting proposed that in the direction of new energy, the company should focus on the coordinated use of new energy with mining and surrounding resources, while planning for ecological vegetation restoration, comprehensively utilizing related resources such as revitalizing building rooftops, closed tailings ponds, waste rock dumps, and stockpiles, to build a centralized wind-solar-storage integrated distributed clean energy system to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in mining and smelting enterprises. In terms of new materials, it is necessary to leverage existing technological advantages in bonded wire and ultra-thin copper plate processing to conduct semiconductor application research on gold, copper, and rare metal materials; for strategic new materials related to metals, research should be conducted on functional materials or integrated structural-functional materials with energy storage and conversion capabilities.
The meeting agreed to establish the Zijin Mining New Energy and New Materials Research Institute to strengthen technology research and development, introduction, and cooperation, as well as to attract and cultivate leading talents and urgently needed talents to safeguard the development of new businesses.
